LGBTQIA+ Support: Find Out Where to Seek Help
Share
Promoting LGBTQIA+ acceptance is a task that involves interaction between public authorities and civil society, with the aim of providing emotional and psychological support and even housing, in the case of LGBTQIA+ people who have been expelled from their homes or are in situations of social vulnerability.
Although it is possible to identify advances in the conquest of rights by people in the LGBTQIA+ group (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transvestites, queer, intersex and asexuals), Brazilian society is still full of prejudice and physical and symbolic violence against the LGBTQIA+ community.
According to estimates from the Bahia Gay Group (GGB), the homes of LGBTQIA+ people can be a source of danger or threat. This is because, according to a survey by the group, more than 35% of lesbians, gays, transvestites and transsexuals were killed at home in 2019.
Therefore, considering how much this group is socially marginalized, with the consequent silencing and lack of opportunities in various areas, we made a list of some places where you can seek shelter and psychological support, if you have been evicted from your home and are on the streets.
House of Blossom (Sao Paulo)
Casa Florescer focuses exclusively on welcoming transvestite and transgender women in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability. In addition to providing psychological support, Casa Florescer also seeks to empower these women with access to education and medical care.
Miga House (Manaus)
Casa Miga , founded in 2018, welcomes the LGBTQIA+ community in Brazil and also refugees who identify as such. It currently has the support of UNHCR, the UN organization for refugees, and provides psychological, professional and social support to people in vulnerable situations.
Flame House (Sao Paulo)
The Chama shelter was created in São Paulo in 2019 with the purpose of promoting the reception of transgender people, especially with health, legal support and cultural initiatives. The reception is done in person and remotely.
Rainbow Group (Rio de Janeiro)
Grupo Arco-Íris , founded in 1993, celebrates 28 years of existence in the city of Rio de Janeiro, with the aim of promoting inclusion, social justice, human rights, combating violence and a series of themes related to people who identify as LGBTQIA+.
Arouchianos Collective (Sao Paulo)
Located in the Largo do Arouche region of São Paulo and founded in 2016, Coletivo Arouchianos provides psychological and therapeutic support and encourages the LGBTQIA+ community to explore culture, art, politics and other issues. The idea is to help these people live a full life and understand their rights.
TransViver (Recife)
Located in the state of Pernambuco, the Transviver Institute aims to provide emotional balance and structure for the entire LGBTQIA+ group, with a special focus on transgender men and women.
The idea of the institute is to promote social inclusion with educational training and support for trans people in situations of social vulnerability.
Casa Satine (Mato Grosso do Sul)
In Mato Grosso do Sul, an initiative created by the Institute of Citizenship and Youth aims to welcome the LGBTQIA+ community over 18 years old, in a situation of social vulnerability and without family ties. The promotion of culture and education are some of Casa Satine 's initiatives.
The search for acceptance aims to create a welcoming and safe environment for the LGBTQIA+ community. If you liked this content, there are other topics on our website that may also interest you. Be sure to check it out!
