Architecture podcasts: Citas' 7 favorites

Did you know that podcasts have taken over Brazil during the pandemic? A study by Grupo Globo showed that 57% of Brazilians started listening to podcasts in the last two years. Faced with the isolation imposed by the coronavirus, Brazilians turned to audio programs and made Brazil the 5th largest consumer of podcasts in the world. With the huge growth in audience, many content topics are covered in podcasts, from journalism, cooking, pets, to architecture!

Let’s get to know Citas’ seven favorite architecture podcasts!

Planned Chaos Podcast

This podcast emerged in February 2019 from the magazine of the same name and is non-profit, being produced by volunteer collaborators.

The organizing team is made up of Anthony Linh, urban planning editor, Gabriel Lohmann, communications manager, and Marcos Paulo Schlickmann, mobility editor.

The episodes feature interviews with experts in various areas related to architecture, urban planning and housing in large cities, ranging from urban mobility to real estate development, covering topics such as urban law and land regularization.

Architecture podcasts: discover São Paulo nas Alturas

The podcast has been around since June 2021 and is hosted by Raul Juste Lores, one of the editors of Veja magazine and who wrote a book of the same name.

In it, Raul discusses urban planning, architecture, public spaces, mobility and fairer cities.

The program discusses, with interviews with experts, but also with important figures, very current topics linked to society in large cities.

Some of the topics covered are: the role of women in construction, as well as in architecture, bureaucracy in the real estate market in large cities and the reality of large cities post-pandemic.

Oh, besides the Podcast, he also has a YouTube channel with a lot of cool content.

Archicast

Arquicast is considered the most famous architecture and urban planning podcast in Brazil. It was created in 2016 and is hosted by architects and professors Adilson Amaral, Aline Cruz and Raphael Rodrigues.

In addition to the comments from the three, the podcast features experts and, in the episodes, some of the topics covered are architectural styles , architecture, as well as technology, analysis of famous works and the biographies of great architects.

According to the creators themselves, the podcast's aim is to "expand the discussion about architecture and urban planning beyond the classroom, thus helping to raise awareness about its influence on our daily lives."

Archipapo

Also on air since 2016, it is presented by architects Gabriel Celligoi, Kzu Maoski and Renata Diniz, who are partners in architecture firms.

The episodes work in a chat format and bring great information, especially for professionals and students in the field.

They deal with architectural and urban solutions for projects and, especially for those in the field, they help to bring very diverse views on the topics.

Neuroarch

Some members of the Brazilian Academy of Neuroscience and Architecture created the podcast with the aim of sharing relevant content for the study of neuroarchitecture in a serious and responsible way, encouraging reflections on issues that relate the areas of health and architecture/design.

Coffee with architecture

Created in March 2020, the podcast offers a light chat, to listen to – as the name suggests – while drinking a coffee and enjoying the conversation.

The conversations cover the world of architecture, with tips and clarifications on frequently asked questions.

Learn Architecture

In this podcast created in 2019, architect Maristela Rodrigues shares information and simple tips for professionals in the field and the general public about architecture.

Wall or fence? What is the minimum height of a house's ceiling? These are some of the topics covered in the podcast. The creator says that the program's motto is “shared knowledge is expanded knowledge.”
