The total volume of internship positions offered to students in the country grew by almost 30% in the first half of 2021.



This is the most recent data released by the Center for Business-School Integration (Ciee). This is one of the main bodies responsible for managing the integration between higher education courses and private institutions that offer opportunities to future professionals.



This growth is quite positive, taking into account the drop in the supply of internship, trainee, apprentice and job vacancies in 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.



According to the survey, 108,335 internship vacancies were made available across the country in the first half of this year, which represents an increase of 26.7% compared to the previous half of the year, when 85,513 vacancies were opened.

Furthermore, it also represents an increase of 2.1% compared to the first half of 2020, when 116,069 vacancies were offered.

The survey also considers vacancies for young apprentices, which together totaled 143,966 opportunities.

This growth represents 27.6% more vacancies, when considering the second half of 2020 and an increase of 10.5% compared to the first half of 2020. In this period, 130,251 vacancies were opened.

The city of São Paulo had the most vacancies available: more than 2,400 opportunities in the first half of the year .

Survey shows triple the number of vacancies in 2021

Did you like to know this? That's because this data isn't even that optimistic. A survey by the Brazilian Internship Center (Nube), which was carried out exclusively for CNN , shows that the internship positions offered in the country have tripled.



This survey compared the months of June 2020 and 2021 and found that the increase was 225%.



In addition, the survey also compared data from 2019, before the pandemic. The growth in data from June 2021 compared to the same period in 2019 was almost 20%.



In other words: the search for interns and the offer of vacancies is buoyant even compared to periods before the economic crisis imposed by the pandemic.



Hiring black people

Furthermore, Companhia de Estágios reported that the hiring of black people as interns grew almost 200% in the first half of 2021.

Profile of Brazilian interns

And interns in Brazil have a well-defined profile, according to Ciee. The majority – more than 80% – are enrolled in higher education.



Furthermore, they are very young people, according to the Center's survey: 35% are aged between 19 and 21 years old and 32% are aged between 22 and 25 years old.



Those over 30 years old are only 9%. Of the total, more than 60% are female.



Main areas with vacancies



According to Ciee, the courses in administration, pedagogy, law, social communication, accounting, information technology, marketing and nursing were the ones that had the most internship vacancies available in 2021.



Catho, one of the main websites in the country offering job and internship vacancies, also points to the administrative area as the leader in offering opportunities, with 29% of the total in 2021.



The advertising and publicity area comes in second place, with around 9% of vacancies. Systems analysis and civil engineering each have around 5% of the total vacancies.



Accounting, law, architecture, production engineering, social communication and psychology courses are also among the 10 with the most vacancies.



Main mistakes made by interns



And for the vast majority of interns, this is a great opportunity to create a good image and secure the job they dream of in the future.



With this in mind, some human resources experts offer tips on how to avoid making a bad impression during this testing period, which can be decisive for the student's entire professional life.



The first tip is to always stay committed. If you have made a commitment, keep it. Don’t let your colleagues and bosses think that you are not responsible for your tasks.



Then, it is essential that the intern clears up doubts, asks questions and integrates with the team to learn. There is no point in doing the work quickly or “without disturbing” if it is going to be done incorrectly.



Furthermore, it is essential that young people are aware of how much they are using their smartphones. They can speed up many tasks and solve many problems, but they can also be the intern's tormentor.



Spending too much time on your cell phone can delay your work and make you oblivious to what is happening in the workplace.

  • prejudiced behavior: 43.6%

  • not taking responsibility for being an intern: 35.1%

  • delays and excessive absences: 24.7%
